The most awaited quarter final of this Champions League. In this post tips and review of Atletico Madrid - Real Madrid.
ATLETICO MADRID - REAL MADRID
Spanish press has named this match as "derby of the revenges".
Atletico Madrid lost the cup in the final of the last edition, while Real lost last derby in the Liga (4-0, Vicente Calderon).
It is going to be a great match without any doubt, probably more because of the historical rivalry and the big amount of top players in the pitch than for the show both teams offered in the last fights lately.
Very briefly: Atletico Madrid, thanks to its competitiveness and the high pressing made by any player in any part of the field, has often found the way to neutralize the game of the Galacticos in the last 2 years.
Especially in Vicente Calderon Stadium, Real hasn't won for over 1 year (11 Feb 2014 - Copa del Rey Semifinal ended 0-2).
Their last performances
Both teams are living a good period, but probably Real seems to be a bit more on shape.
True, Real has lost the first place in the league but has showed good performances in the last matches, thanks to the presence in the field of James and Modric, finally back from their injuries.
Atletico Madrid has struggled a lot without the injured Mandzukic in the last weeks, but the striker should be available for this match as Simeaone said some days ago.
Real has collected 3 wins in a row and now occupies the 2nd place in the Liga, 2 points below Barcelona and 7 above Atletico which has lost many points drawing matches against weaker teams.
Both teams don't have absences, well, only Moya for Atletico but Oblak has already took his place for the last matches and Simeone seems to prefer him to the spanish goalie for the rest of the season.
Some doubts in the last days for Gareth Bale, who was suffering some muscular noises but should be fit for the match.
Lets pay attention to yellow/red cards: in the last 6 matches between these teams Atletico has collected 31 yellow cards while Real 21...too many, especially for Atletico!
ATLETICO MADRID: Oblak; Juanfran, Godín, Miranda (o Gimenez),
Gámez: Koke, Tiago, Gabi, Turan; Griezmann, Mandzukic.
REAL MADRID: Casillas; Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo; Kroos, Modric, Rodriguez; Bale, Ronaldo, Benzema.
