In this post tips and review of Juventus - Monaco.
JUVENTUS - MONACO
Juventus is the only italian team still playing in an European Cup.
Draw has been clement with Juventus, since they have avoided stronger teams like Bayern, Barcelona and Real Madrid, and for that Allegri's squad has good chances to reach the semifinal.
Juventus hasn't played a quarterfinal of Champions League since the season 2002/2003 defeating Barcelona with a goal scored by Zalayeta in the extra time.
There are some reasons which led us think Juventus will get the qualification: surely italian team has more skilled players, and also stats and history flank Juventus: in the previous 10 occasions where Juventus has faced french teams, well, they passed the round 10 times and Monaco has never won in Italy.
But wait...is Monaco really so weak?
Monaco's recent history
After the relegation, Monaco was bought by the russian Rybolovlev who has immediately strenghtened the club reachd the qualification in Ligue 1 the next year.
After coming back in Ligue1, lots of skilled players had been bought: James Rodriguez, Moutinho, Abidal, Ricardo Carvalho, Radamel Falcao, Anthony Martial, Toulalan, Kondogbia and Sergio Romero.
Great results in that season ended in the 2nd place.
Problems came again in the 2014 when Rybolovlev divorced from his wife and that costed him something like 3 billions of euros, he then decided to sell its best players.
And in the next seasons results were really awful, but with time coach Jardim gave a good identity to this squad, making a very solid defense ( Monaco has conceded really few goals both in France and Europe).
Monaco has collected 37 UNDER 2.5 in 48 official matches.
In the current Champions they collected only 1 OVER 2.5 (in Emirates Stadium against Arsenal), while in the group stage they conceded only 1 goal but at the same time scoring only 4 goals.
Monaco's defenders are not very skilled but they are perfectly organized.
4-3-3 chosen by Jardim which becomes a 4-4-2 while defending with both central midfielders who get closer to the defense and the wingers who come back in the defense to help the fullbacks, bascially closing all empty spaces.
Allegri has some doubts: 3-5-2 or 4-3-1-2? It will all depend by the presence of Barzagli, if available, Juventus will use a 3-5-2.
Generally speaking Juventus with 3-5-2 scores and concedes less than the times they play with a 4-3-1-2
Allegri knows the importance of keeping the goals unbeaten tonight.
In our opinion is not going to be a pleasant match, where Juventus could have the best, maybe with a piece of skill of Carlitos Tevez, who has already scored 6 goals in the current Champions League.
JUVENTUS: Buffon, Lichtsteiner, Bonucci, Barzagli,
Chiellini, Evra, Vidal, Marchisio, Pereyra, Morata, Tevez.
MONACO: Subašić, Fabinho, Carvalho, Abdennour, Kurzawa, Toulalan, Kondogbia, Dirar, Moutinho, Martial, Berbatov.
