In this post we analyze the most interesting Austrian Belgian, Danish, Norwegian, Swiss and Ukrainian Leagues matches scheduled on Sunday 31 July.
In the Austrian Bundesliga, Rapid Wien have well started the new season and will probably compete for the title with Austria Wien. Rapid have not won the title since 2008 but they have always ended the League in the second position for the last 3 years.
The squad basis is the same of the previous season, exception made for the transfers of Stangl and Kainz and the arrivals of Malicsek, Joelinton, Traustason and Mocinic. After the nice 2-0 win over Chelsea in a friendly, Rapid have then made a debut in Austrian League winning with a stuning 5-0 vs Reid.
In the away match vs Altach, Rapid is clearly favourite.
Gent face Kortrijk in the first round of Jupiler Pro League. Gent probably have a better physical condition than the opponents as they started training much earlier due to the Europa League qualifiers (5-0 win over Vitorul Constanta on last Thursday).
Gent have kept their best players of the previous season such as Kums, Depoitre, Neto and Foket, selling only the goalie Sels to Newcastle United.
Midtjylland are looking for their first home win of the season and should occur vs Silkeborg, unable to score a goal after the first 2 rounds.
Stromgodset, in Norway, have won the last 8 home matches in a row and are favourite vs Stabaek that occupy the third to last position in the League.
Still in the Norwegian Tippeligaen Aalesunds-Lillestrom is expected to be an "OVER 2.5" game. Lillestrom have collected 7 OVER 2.5 in the last 7 matches played on the road, while Aalesunds have the second worst defence of the competition but they have already scored 14 goals in 8 home matches played.
In Sweden two home wins are very likely: Aik and Haecken are on a good shape and both face teams with lots of problems lately: Falkenbergs occupy the second to last position in Allsvenskan while Helsingborg have lost 4 of the last 5 league matches.
Basel, Swiss Champions, are already qualified for the Champions League Group Stage and should have the best vs Vaduz which have started bad the new season being eliminated from Europa League Qualifiers by Midtjylland. Basel have earned about 27 mln for the transfer of Breel Embolo to Schalke 04 and have reinvested part of them with the arrivals of Geoffrey Srey Diè, Seydou Doumbia, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Eder Balanta.
Our sensation is that Basel have now a much more competitive squad and they can easily manage the double task Swiss League-Champions League.
In Ukraine Dynamo Kiyv have begun brilliantly the new season: after the triumph in the Ukrainian SuperCup vs Shakhtar Donetsk, Dynamo have then scored 5 goals vs Oleksandria in the 1st round of National League. In the away clash vs Karpaty L'viv, alwayS beaten in the last 3 meetings, another win is very likely.
