WBX IS NOT AVAILABLE ANYMORE. IT HAS BEEN CLOSED ON MARCH 2015!!
Launched in 2006 as a direct competitor to Betfair, WBX (World Bet Exchange) attracts customers by offering lower commissions than their more established rival. While they do not offer daily markets for Australian horse racing, they do cover a host of other sports as well as UK and Irish racing.
What might appeal to some of our members, other than their lower commissions, is the ability to engage in live online betting. As Betfair holds both UK and Australian licenses, they do not permit Australians to bet "in-play"online, only allowing this to be done over the phone. WBX places no such restrictions on Aussie punters.
Commissions at WBX range from 3% to 5% but can go as low as 1.2% when loyalty discounts are factored in. They claim that Betfair users pay 35% more in commission fees than those who use WBX. Not only that but, unlike Betfair, there are no premium charges for winning punters. Smaller minimum stakes make them an attractive option for lower stakes punters and there are also opportunities to earn free bets to help build up your punting bank.
WBX website is fast and presents itself both as a bookmaker and as a betting exchange, depending on your preferences.
For those Punting Form members whose interests go beyond Australian horse racing and into UK and Irish racing (horses and greyhounds), soccer, American professional and college sports, boxing, UFC, cricket, golf, tennis, ice hockey, rugby (league and union), motor sports, snooker, darts and even politics, WBX might be worth adding to your bookmarks.
